Railway Signal Interlock Networking
Application Overview
In complex rail networks interlocks are used to ensure there are no conflicting movements through an arrangement of tracks such as junctions or crossings. An interlocking is designed so that it is impossible to give clear signals to trains unless the route to be used is proved to be safe. Interlock technology has evolved throughout the years, and with it efficiency and reliability. Communications between interlock systems need to be as efficient and reliable as the interlock systems themselves, which is where the Korenix JetBox 9300 becomes the ideal embedded communications system to allow connectivity between these devices.

The ruggedised design makes the JetBox 9300 series suitable to be mounted in a wayside enclosure that is exposed to the harshest conditions. The proven RISC processor technology provides the stability and reliability required for these networks, and the support for the Linux Real time operating systems allows layer 2 and 3 custom protocol connectivity. The serial device server technology allows for connectivity to the interlock system and for that serial communication to be accessed anywhere on the network, while the Ethernet ports multiple JetBox 9300s can be cascaded to save on physical media costs. JetBox 9300 provides the rugged design, efficiency and reliability to become the embedded communications system of choice for rail interlock communication applications.
